Nachdem die 80-jährige Witwe Mantoa erfahren hat, dass ihr letzt verbliebener Sohn verstorben ist, hat sie nur noch einen letzten Wunsch: Sie möchte in ihrem Heimatdorf in den Bergen von Lesotho mit ihrem Sohn gemeinsam begraben werden. Doch Beamte beabsichtigen dort, einen Damm für einen Stausee zu bauen und das Dorf umzusiedeln. Mantoa beschliesst, das spirituelle Erbe der Gemeinde zu verteidigen.
