Ash Is Purest White
Die so selbstbewusste wie unabhängige Qiao ist mit Bin zusammen, einem einflussreichen Gangster in einer nordchinesischen Stadt. Ihre Liebe zu ihm ist bedingungslos, gleichzeitig geniesst sie den Respekt und die Vorteile, die ihr als Frau eines Bandenführers zuteilwerden. Eines Tages wird Bin von einer Gang angegriffen. Im letzten Moment greift Qiao zur Waffe und rettet ihm das Leben. Sie nimmt die Schuld für die Schiesserei auf sich und muss fünf Jahre ins Gefängnis. Nach ihrer Entlassung will sie Bin wiedersehen – doch er ist verschwunden und das Land, das Qiao auf der Suche nach ihm durchquert, ist kaum mehr wiederzuerkennen.
Jia Zhang-Ke ist einer der wichtigsten Regisseure des chinesischen Gegenwartskinos und hat zahllose internationale Preise gewonnen. Zuletzt hat er das Kinopublikum mit «A Touch of Sin» und «Mountains May Depart» gefesselt. In seinem aktuellen Spielfilm «Ash Is Purest White» erzählt er vor dem Hintergrund des rasend schnellen gesellschaftlichen Wandels in seiner Heimat eine bittersüsse, starke Liebesgeschichte, die sich von 2001 bis in die Gegenwart spannt.
